National Stadium (Birdí»s Nest)

Location: Olympic Green

The National Stadium, known as the "Bird's Nest," served as the main venue of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. It is located in the Olympic Green and occupies 21.4 hectares. It stretches 333 meters from north to south and 298 meters from east to west, covering an area of 258,000 square meters. The National Stadium is 68 meters high and holds 91,000 seats. The opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games, Athletics and Football events was held in it. The construction of the National Stadium began in December of 2003.

The ticket price for a visit to the Bird's Nest, open to the public from Oct. 1st,2008, is about the same as one to the Forbidden City, RMB 50 (7.3 U.S. dollars) a time to visit the iconic building.


National Aquatics Center (Water Cube)

Location: Olympic Green

Total land surface: 79,532 sq m

Located on the western side of JINGGUANG Road of the Olympic Green, the National Aquatics Center, also known as the "Water Cube", is a blue crystal palace, with the appearance of light-blue bubbles on the outside, perfectly displaying the beauty of water under various light conditions.

In contrast to the stark lines of the "Bird's Nest" National Stadium, the "Water Cube" is built with soft and rounded contours. The world's only enclosed public construction covered entirely with membrane, the translucent building creates a comfortable, tranquil and poetic atmosphere.

Sparkles, glows and the iridescent "bubbles" on its outer walls are unforgettable. The "Water Cube" and the "Bird's Nest", one square and one round, one with strong straight lines, the other smooth and graceful, compliment each other to create an extraordinary environment in the Green.

Olympic events: Swimming, Diving, Synchronized Swimming

Visitors need to pay 30 Yuan (4.4 dollars) to get into the Water Cube.


National Indoor Stadium

Location: Olympic Green

Total land surface: 80,900 sq m

The National Indoor Stadium is situated in Olympic Green's Central Zone, and north of the "Water Cube". The roof of the indoor stadium is shaped like an open fan, the lines full of motion and lightness, supported on four sides by a steel framework that is covered with sheets of glistening and transparent glass. The whole fanlike structure strongly reflects the essence of Chinese culture.

Olympic events: Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline, Handball
